A Tree of Moulded Voices
Fixed media piece for Modern Dancers
‘A Tree of Moulded Voices’ is a cross-departmental project between music, dance students and a film graduate. The process of creating choreography was done through close communication between the composer and the filming was planned for each movement, delivering different perspectives of the choreography through the lens of the camera. The piece creates a dystopian sound world at start which then takes the audience to the bottom of the seabed where ancient lives start to move about and breathe. We intended to create a dance film that can demonstrate how three mediums create a synergy as a whole.

All the material of the piece is from the two recordings of spoken sound: “Today everyone spend more time on paperwork.” and “The history of life can be thought of as a many branch tree, with all species alive today related to common ancestors down near the base”.
